We had some special visitors of the creepy crawly kind in Nursery today! Zoo Lab visited with a selection of creatures for the children to learn about and hold. We met a snail, a snake, some cockroaches and a tarantula. The children asked some really good questions to find out more about these creatures.
This week we welcomed our friends to Spennymoor. During their visit, our friends got to learn some local history about Durham city, visiting the castle and the cathedral. They spent a day in Spennymoor, visiting the Nursery, Town Hall and Whitworth Hall. The final day was spent sightseeing so we went to Beamish to learn about the heritage and culture of the North East, had high tea at Beamish Hall, visited the Angel of the North, Metro Centre and finished the trip with an Elizabethan Banquet at Lumley Castle. It was lovely to see our friends again.
Lip Lee visited Nursery today to tell the children the story behind Chinese New Year. The children made Chinese puppets and tried on Chinese clothes. They also got to dance in a Chinese Dragon.
We asked the children to bring in just one item of clothing or toys/books etc. to donate to the Red Cross to help those less fortunate than ourselves. We loaded the trolley with our donations and set off up the town. It was hard work pulling the trolley but we all worked together. Great team work! The lady at the Red Cross was very grateful for the donations. Miss. Smith gave us a ride in the trolley, all the way back to Nursery. We are very proud of our boys and girls for helping others.
Parents and Grandparents came along to work with their children to make puppets to be displayed in an exhibition for our Comenius visitors in March. Some wonderful creations were made and everyone had great fun working on this family project.
As part of our Comenius project, ‘Celebrations Across Europe’, the children celebrated their 5th Special Day by becoming Super Heroes for the day. The children worked their way around three special activities- making a super hero cape, making a super hero special powers wrist band and making a super hero mask. They also had to make up a name for their Super Hero. Everyone had a wonderful day!
Lynn visited from ‘Seven Stories’ book shop in Newcastle today. She told the children a selection of stories, using wonderful props to bring the books to life.
The children had a wonderful day, playing party games and dancing. Santa made a special appearance to bring the children a Christmas present. The boys and girls sang a song to Santa then he left to resume duties in the North Pole.
Today the children have cycled round Europe. They started in Sweden where Abba was playing whilst they waited their turn. They then rode past the Eiffel Tower in France, past the Angel of the North in England, past the Blue Mosque in Turkey, past the orange roofed castle of Tallinn in Estonia, past the Astronomical Clock in the Czech Republic, past the Fountain of Honey in Latvia, through the caves of Postojna in Slovenia, past the Hill of Crosses in Lithuania and finally through the finishing post. The children did such a great job. Thank you to all of the parents and grandparents who came along to cheer on the children.
