Bike and Scooter Track
Our Bike and Scooter Track is a firm favourite with the children. The track is quite challenging with a bend at the bottom of a small hill. Often, the only brakes the children have are the toes of their shoes! We have trikes and two wheel balance bikes. There are also scooters for the children to ride on. Some of our bikes are for two children to ride, encouraging team work and turn taking.
The castle is our most recent addition to the garden. It gives a grand entrance to our ‘Secret Garden’.
We worked with John Nuttall and Graham Hopper to create this area of the garden. The path is made from recycled plastic bottles and a roped fence guides the children towards the door, adorned by dragons and metal flag poles.
The path continues behind the castle, taking us right up to our original path in the secret garden. There is a little challenge half way along the path where the children have to negotiate over stepping stones.
Our Meadow Mat activities. We have a small section of grass which has wild flowers and we let the grass grow very long for the children to roll in, crawl through, hide in and run through.
We are very lucky to have our very own gardener here at Oxclose Nursery, Bryan. Bryan works with the children to plant, and subsequently harvest, our crops. We grow beans, peas, beetroot, onions, potatoes, carrots, leeks, courgettes, pumpkins, cauliflowers and a selection of herbs. The children sell the produce in our little shop and the money we raise goes towards buying new seeds for the next year.
